The spur throated grasshopper is one of the most destructive and most numerous insects in all of North America.
Females can lay up to 20 eggs each, and they bury them directly in the soil where they sit over winter and hatch in early Summer. Full grown they can reach 2 inches.
They Jump, They Fly and THEY EAT… and EAT… AND EAT!
Variations of this species have been eradicated in the Midwest United States, where they caused such widespread damage as to be blamed as one of the major culprits of the Dust Bowl Era of the Dirty ’30s.
