Crash near Qualicum Beach leaves one house with structural damage, no one injured

A Canada Day crash along Horne Lake Road has left one house with structural damage.

On July 1, around 9.am, Oceanside RCMP received a report of a vehicle crash into a house in the 300 block of Horne Lake Road in Qualicum Beach along with the driver potentially trying to flee the scene.

Officers arrived on scene and found the vehicle crashed into one of the bedrooms in a field across the street where one person had been sleeping but was unharmed.

RCMP say they found the driver and issued a breathalyzer test to which they failed and received a 90 day license suspension and their car being impounded for 30 days.

Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Shane Worth said drinking and driving still occurs too much and is warning drivers about the potential risks with doing it.

“It’s still something that’s occurring that should not be occurring in this community, it shouldn’t be happening anywhere, so if you are drinking and driving, we are out there, we are enforcing drinking and driving and if you are caught drinking and driving you are subject to an automatic 90 day driving suspension.”

At least one other occupant was in the house at the time and witnessed the crash, who Worth said was ‘quite worried’ for the person in the bedroom.

Both occupants in the house sustained no injuries, while the driver was looked at by paramedics for minor scratches.
