The BC Government is reminding people to be smart this weekend with increased temperatures expected across the province.
Despite recent cooler weather and precipitation across many regions in the province, a temperature increase is coming this weekend according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Heat warnings are in place for most of East Vancouver Island, going as far north as Campbell River and far south to Duncan.
An extreme heat warning has not been declared for East Vancouver Island by the province.
The ongoing drought and high temperatures in July make for a high risk of new wildfires beginning this weekend.
Fire bans continue to be prohibited in Southern B.C. but recent cooler weather and rain in the North is permitting small campfires in the Northwest Fire Centre, Prince George Fire Centre and Haid Gwaii starting August 1.
They urge residents and travelers to use caution to reduce the risks of starting human-caused wildfires by following the bans and restrictions in place and having an emergency plan with friends and family.
