RCMP looking for knife-wielding assailant

Nanaimo RCMP say a man out for a leisurely walk with his dog were threatened and held at knifepoint on Northfield Road.

According to a media release, police were called out on July 11, at 9:30 a.m. to 2450 Northfield Road when a man swung two knives at the dog walker.

They add the accused was taken down by the man’s dog and thanks to quick thinking the walker was able to temporarily subdue the assailant.

“The dog lunged at the assailant and bit him on the right leg,” police say. “The dog’s owner, who is trained in martial arts, was able to incapacitate the assailant and take possession of the knives.”

Police say they’re looking for a Caucasian man between 30 and 40 years old who was wearing dark clothes and a bra on his head. He is reported to have left the area with a red suitcase and a red mobility walker.
