RDN asks for public insight on coastal development plans

The RDN is asking for public feedback on establishing areas of land identified as needing special treatment for development near the coast.

The RDN put the proposal in front of the board last year outlining the requirements needed to reduce the impact of coastal flooding. They say two readings were given to the amendments last year in areas A, E, G and H and now it is time to get public feedback.

The district says five open houses will be available for residents in each electoral area from February to March before the bylaws are expected to be approved in April or May.

The initial regional assessment went before the board in 2019 after the province advised coastal communities to prepare for at least one metre of sea level rise by the year 2100, and two metres by 2200.

The board adopted the Flood Hazard Mitigation bylaw on July 11.
