Sechelt Library says a flood has caused them to close their doors for almost four weeks after significant damage was sustained in various parts of the facility.
According to the library, the District of Sechelt’s maintenance staff alerted the library to the flood, on Jan. 17, and tried to move items out of the water causing further damage to the library.
The cause of the flood is still under investigation, but the library says the flood affected the second floor and caused damage to walls, lighting, equipment, furniture and parts of their collection.
A media release states most of the library’s collection has been saved, and work is currently underway to restore the building on time. The restoration efforts are being divided into three main areas from ceilings, walls, and floors to expedite the restoration efforts.
The library says in the release the closure has affected services offered by the library, and they ask residents to view the list of changes on their website.
The cause of the flood is under investigation by the District of Sechelt.
