Umo goes live on the Sunshine Coast

BC Transit says the Sunshine Coast will now get the option to pay for their ride through the new contactless payment method Umo.

According to BC Transit Umo, will provide changes and improvements to some of their fare products, including the introduction of the 30-day pass, which will replace the existing monthly pass on Feb. 1, and cash balance.

They say the pass will help improve rider experience and hope the rollout will spark more people using active transportation by providing a more user-friendly interface.

“While it is expected most riders will find Umo’s new payment methods a more convenient option, cash will continue to be accepted for those who prefer to use it,” they say.

BC Transit adds once riders are registered for Umo the card, or app, will automatically determine how many trips the user is taking and provide them with the best fare options to save the most amount of money.

Umo vendors on the Sunshine Coast include the Regional District’s Administration Office, Sechelt Aquatic Centre, Gibson Public Library, and the Gibson and Area Community Centre.

Victoria was the first location to get Umo in November and was released across Vancouver Island shortly after.
