Sunshine Coast WildSafe BC wraps up for season

WildSafe BC on the Sunshine Coast says they are grateful for all the generous support to help spread the word on how to keep the community and wildlife safe.

WildSafe BC’s goal this year, on the Sunshine Coast, was to provide information about attractant management to ensure food sources such as garbage, compost, and fruit are secured. They say this goes a long way to mitigating contact between wildlife and humans.

Local coordinator Julie McNeil has worked within the community to prevent negative engagements by providing conflict and says in a media release, while bears will be denning for the winter soon other animals that don’t hibernate will still be roaming.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District says although cougars, elk, coyotes, and deer will not be denning they highly suggest residents take caution and report any wildlife passing through habited communities by calling their Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.

WildSafe BC on the Sunshine Coast receives funding from the SCRD, the British Columbia Conservation Foundation, and the Province of BC.
