Nanaimo man charged after allegedly stealing 2 cars and ransacking home while family was on vacation

A man who allegedly ransacked a Nanaimo home and stole thousands $15,000 worth of items, along with two vehicles, is in custody.

39-year-old Shawn Weldon was arrested Saturday after he was spotted driving one of the cars taken from a home on Melodi Wood Way, while the owners were on vacation.

Constable Gary O’Brien says Weldon tried to run but was nabbed by police dog Boomer.

A search of a home on Malaspina Drive turned up many of the items stolen from the home on Melodi Wood Way, including electronics, sporting goods and appliances.

Constable Gary O’Brien says Weldon’s facing numerous charges, including Break and Enter and two counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Weldon was remanded into custody until August 13th.
