Ten Lined June Beetle
This is a female Ten Lined June Beetle, also called a Watermelon Beetle. They don’t bite or have poison or venom, but they do make this funny sound in an attempt to scare away predators. A garden nuisance, they eat the roots of many grasses, perennials, trees and shrubs. One of the biggest beetles in our climate, and a Keith on the Coast Certified Cool Bug! Haha
