Fire extinguished inside Nanaimo's Woodgrove Centre

Fire investigators and the RCMP are looking into a small fire at The Bay, inside Nanaimo’s Woodgrove Centre. Assistant Chief of Operations Ron Lepchuk says Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews were called out just after 2:30pm. While still unconfirmed, he says it appears someone maliciously started a fire inside the mall. The sprinkler near the fire was activated and extinguished the blaze.

Lepchuk says a woman who pulled the fire alarm did sustain minor injuries to her fingers, because she didn’t know how to activate the alarm. She was treated on the scene.
