Some scary moments for a Coquitlam woman visiting the Sunshine Coast on the long weekend.
RCMP say the woman went out for a swim from Georgia Beach around 6:30 Saturday evening. She was last seen headed toward Gibsons Marina.
She was reported missing an hour later.
RCMP called in Search and Rescue, RCM-SAR and the Coast Guard, and after an extensive search on land and water the woman was found, unharmed.
She told police she’d been caught up by a strong current, but managed to reach a rock, where she she stayed for two hours before being helped to shore by passing boaters.
RCMP says the incident should serve as a reminder to be mindful of water hazards and currents, and to make sure you tell someone before hitting the water.
