Gibsons affordable housing project finds new home

Instead of using the Charmin Creek lands, the town of Gibsons is looking to have an affordable housing project built on Shaw Road.

The town owns property on 571 Shaw, and they’re looking to the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society to build 40 units of affordable housing there.

Matt Thomson with the housing society says the new location isn’t a concern for them.

“With this move, we feel this gets the project to another appropriate site,” said Thomson.

“Our primary concern with this move is just the recognition from the town that this project will not solve the housing crisis on its own.”

Thomson says it is good the town will continue to look for affordable housing opportunities because people are struggling out there and 40 extra units will only make a small dent.
