Flooding situation improving in the RDN

The Regional District of Nanaimo’s Emergency Operation Centre is now operating only with core Emergency Services staff.

The centre was activated Sunday in response to the rain event that hit the region causing localized flooding, mudslides and road washouts.

The break in the rain the past couple of days has allowed river levels to drop and flooding to subside.

The District is reporting many of the roadways that were previously closed are now open, however there are a few areas that are being monitored.

Those include the landslide on Rumming Road where damage is extensive and damage to Melrose Road where Ministry of Highways officials are considering installing a temporary bridge.
