No extra cash for Nanaimo Centre Stage

City Council has shot down a request from the Centre for the Arts Nanaimo forĀ an extra $29-thousand to operate Nanaimo Centre StageĀ this year.

They were also seeking extra money for the next 2 years, along with a 5 year license to manageĀ Centre Stage.

Sarah Lane, Director for Centre for the Arts Nanaimo, says without that money they’ll be forced to shut down.

Led by Cultural Committee Chair Fred Pattje, Council OK’d Ā a three year license extension, but no more money.Ā  Pattje says he’s not convinced they face closure.

Councillor Bill McKay voted against the move.

 

The Centre is holding a board meeting Wednesday to decide its next move.
