Arrests made after shotgun fired in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP have arrested two people and recovered a shotgun after it was fired inside an apartment building today.

It left a large hole in a wall of a neighbouring unit in the apartment in the 6000 block of Quilchena Crescent. The two adults and a toddler inside the apartment were not injured, but a frightened call was made to 9-1-1 around 11:30am.

Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien says when police got there, they found a hole consistent with a shot from a shotgun, but no one was inside the unit where the gun was fired. Police tracked down the occupants a few hours later. RCMP say charges will likely be related to the improper storage and handling of a firearm.
