5 arrested after stolen property recovered in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP say five suspects were arrested after their Street Crimes Unit recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen property.

Corporal Jon Stuart says the investigation started December 29th after someone reported seeing two people suspiciously loading furniture into a van outside of a home on Hallen Avenue. He says the resident made the right call, rather than intervening themselves.

Stuart says the van was gone by the time police arrived, but they confirmed a break and enter had happened and several items had been taken.

Shortly after, officers found the van filled with the missing items in an alleyway off of Bowen Rd. They arrested three people, and then searched a hotel room and a house in central Nanaimo where other stolen items were located.

Two of the suspects are still in custody and will be appearing in court on Monday, January 4th. Two others have court dates in mid-January.
