RCMP investigating after explosive device detonated in Gibsons

Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating after an explosive device was detonated early yesterday morning in Gibsons.

Around 2:45am, RCMP and the Gibsons Fire Department were called when a newspaper box was blown up in the 300 block of Glassford Road.

Police say the homemade bomb was made of two London brand butane canisters, and green painter’s tape.

The explosion caused significant property damage, and could have easilt cased serious injuries.

RCMP are looking for information from the public.

The type of butane canisters used aren’t readily available on the Sunshine Coast, so they want to hear from anyone who has seen someone with them recently.
