4 Island RCMP officers facing charges in separate IIO probes

Four Island RCMP officers are facing charges after separate probes by the Independent Investigation Office.

A Nanaimo officer has been charged with assault causing bodily harm in connection with an incident that allegedly happened in the cells at the detachment last June. Constable Tim Bedard will appear in court March 17th.

Three Oceanside members, meanwhile, have been charged with assault with a weapon – allegedly pepper spray – stemming from an incident at that detachment’s cells in 2013. Crown prosecutors claim the officers used the spray in a way that should be considered “excessive use of force”.

Constables Scott Jones, Michelle Lebrun and Mick White will also be in court for first appearances on March 17th.
