Nanaimo RCMP looking for witnesses following stabbing of a 52-year-old man

Police are looking for answers as they investigate a stabbing.

On Friday, July 12, around 3:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Fitzwilliam Street, an incident was reported where Nanaimo Fire Rescue and BCEHS responded.

On arrival they found a man who was stabbed and had to be treated at the scene before being transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for treatment.

Investigators attempted to speak with the victim, who was uncooperative and only said they fled afterwards but wouldn’t provide a direction they fled in or provide a description of the suspect.

RCMP sent Police Dog Services to investigate the scene, but they were unable to track or locate the missing suspect.

The scene remained closed for some time after to allow investigators to collect and document forensic evidence.

Police continue to look for the suspect and are asking for witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage to come forward and contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
