Nanaimo man charged with 15 counts of weapon and drug related charges

A Nanaimo man is facing charges following the discovery of numerous weapons and drugs during a traffic stop.

On June 13, 2024, a Nanaimo RCMP Special Investigations/Targeted Enforcement Unit officer saw Roger Ian Derr operating a vehicle, despite being prohibited from driving.

The officer arrested Derr for breaching the conditions of his bail order and discovered a bottle of pills in his possession.

A visual scan of the front and back seats of Derr’s truck revealed more bottles of drugs.

A more thorough search was conducted by the officer, and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a replica firearm, thousands of dollars in cash, several ounces of fentanyl and hundreds of pills suspected to be illicit prescription opiates were found.

Derr is charged with 15 counts of weapon and drug related charges, including possession of a firearm contrary to his probation order, careless storage of a firearm, five counts of trafficking, and failure to comply with his probation order.

Derr remains in custody and now awaits a court date.
