First-degree murder charges have been laid from a fatal shooting in May of 2021.
42-year-old Ronald Joseph Campbell has been charged with first-degree murder of Yasin Khan in a shooting that happened in broad daylight.
The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. on May 20, 2021, in the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant in Rock City Plaza.
Police responded to reports of shots fired to find Khan deceased in a parked vehicle from gunshot wounds.
Acting officer in charge of Nanaimo RCMP Andrew Burton said it took some time to gather the necessary evidence to lay the charge.
“I would like to acknowledge the dedication and tenacity shown by the officers of our Serious Crimes Section who led this complex investigation and worked with several police agencies, RCMP Forensic Services, the BC Prosecution Service, and the general public.”
Campbell is currently in custody, and no further comments will be made as the matter is now before the courts.
