Open houses coming on BC Hydro connection to Woodfibre LNG

BC Hydro says a proposed LNG plant at Woodfibre will require upgrades to power lines along the lower Sunshine Coast.

Woodfibre’s plan calls for more electricity than Hydro can provide right now.

BC Hydro’s Sue Foster outlined 3 possibilities for local councils recently.

She says they all have on thing in common, an increase in the capacity of a power line running between Gibsons and Squamish.

Depending on which option goes ahead, Hydro could also be upgrading the Malaspina substation north of Sechelt, or building a new substation at Port Mellon.

The public will get a chance to find out more at an open house in Gibsons on March 17 from 5pm to 8pm at the GACC, and one in Sechelt on the 18th from 5pm to 8pm at the Seaside Centre.
