Gibsons a race to watch Satuday night

With voters heading to the polls Saturday, one of the most closely watched campaigns on the Sunshine Coast is in Gibsons; where Suzanne Senger is facing incumbent Wayne Rowe for mayor.

A lot of the public debate has centered on a controversial waterfront hotel proposal – the George.

But Senger says there’s more to this election.

Rowe also says there are broader issues at play.

The tone of the campaign has gotten a bit nasty on social media, but both Rowe and Senger say that doesn’t match their experience while they’ve been out meeting with voters.

Another trend this time around in Gibsons is that the idea of “slates”, alliances and teams has been out in the open more than past years.  Rowe and Senger both say they don’t necessarily think the vote will reflect that.

There are 8 candidates for Council: Incumbents Dan Bouman, Charlene San Jenko and Lee Ann Johnson. Former mayor Barry Janyk. Outgoing School Trustee Silas White. And newcomers Stafford Lumley, Katie Janyk and Jeremy Valeriote.
