An arrest warrant for a 55-year-old Parksville who failed to attend court the previous day led police to seize a cache of drugs, a weapon and ammunition.
On January 10, RCMP found the man to be in possession of multiple types of suspected drugs which investigators believe he was planning to sell.
The man was set to appear in court for a charge of driving while prohibited.
A search warrant was then granted for a utility trailer the man owned and found a loaded .22 calibre pistol, ammunition, body armour, and more types and quantities of suspected drugs.
Sgt. Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP said various charge recommendations will be forwarded to crown counsel at a later date.
“The seizure of the loaded firearm clearly demonstrates the dangers associated with the illegal drug trade.”
Charges have yet to be formally laid against the man.
