Officials at the Nanaimo Airport are getting ready to announce details of flights to Seattle. They’ll come next Tuesday (Jan 14th).
The Airport has already said they were looking at adding the destination sometime this year.
There’s also more evidence to suggest a lot of the record passenger numbers at the airport are Islanders heading up north for work in the resource sector.
A chartered 737 carrying workers to and from Kitimat for the Christmas break became the first to land in Nanaimo since the 2009 runway extension.
“It’s great that these workers and their families can continue to live in Central
Vancouver Island, and still take advantage of the demand jobs”, says Airport CEO Mike Hooper. “It’s our job to help make the commute as simple as possible. This can be achieved by new direct service, more frequency or assisting with direct charters like this Enerjet one.”
