An early morning vehicle accident has resulted in a fatality.
At around 6 a.m. on Friday, July 26, emergency crews responded to reports of a crash on the Inland Island Highway between Exits 45 and 51 in Parksville.
The crash involved a commercial delivery truck just south of the Englishman River bridge.
An initial investigation determined the truck was traveling north before losing control and colliding with the center median and coming to rest in the south bound lane of the highway.
A passenger was announced dead at the scene, while the driver and a second passenger were transported to hospital but are expected to survive.
Oceanside RCMP say the investigation is still ongoing and they are working with the RCMP’s Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroners Service.
The highway remains closed in both directions with detours to send drivers through Parksville.
