Nanaimo RCMP, say they have responded to three calls so far since the snow hit early this morning, and they fully expect more as the day goes on.
Reserve constable Gary O’Brien says so far only one incident along Highway 19 towards the Duke Point turn off which caused police to close the road down after a vehicle entered the ditch sending one person to hospital.
“It is unknown what the injuries are, but EHS responded, and the person was taken to hospital for assessment,” O’Brien says.
O’Brien says the other two were minor with one happening behind the Brooks Landing Mall and another up north. He says they are expecting to deal with more if drivers don’t use caution and drive according to conditions.
“Drivers have to adjust to the conditions, and when you are making a turn go very slow and prepare for it,” he says.
He says the snow is starting to let up, but as drivers head out on the road it will get compacted and potentially cause more slippery conditions.
