SCRD moves into second round of budget discussions

The Sunshine Coast Regional District says they’ve found 42 new projects as they get set to proceed to the second round of the budget process.

The first round of the budget was brought forward by chief administrative officer Dean McKinley at the Dec. 4 board meeting where budget proposals were either deferred to another year, denied, or moved ahead to round two budget discussions.

According to the district, round two will take place on Feb. 5 where the board will address proposed items that were not approved and a final decision will be made on if they will be incorporated into the financial plan for the upcoming year.

The new projects forecasted to make their way into the budget are; solid waste, recreation, parks, fire departments, water, and staffing.

Before the final budget meetings take place, and the district determines if it will be adopted on Feb. 22, the board is scheduled to take part in two virtual information sessions scheduled for Jan. 22, and 24.

The final budget meeting will incorporate all projects and initiatives that have moved through the process [budget meetings] and discussed is adopted by the SCRD.
