Collective agreement between BCMEA and ILWU reached

The International Longshore and Warehouse Canada, along with the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association will be recommending ratification of a collective agreement to the union’s membership.

Although details of the new agreement have not been disclosed by the BCMEA, this is the second deal put forward to the union since Friday evening.

According to BCMEA the first deal offered would have seen wages increased from $136,000 to $162,000 annually as well as an increase in retirement payout for eligible retiring employees to $96,250 in 2026 which is over and above employees’ pension entitlements.

The deal also provided opportunities to improve the training, retention, and recruitment of ILWU trade workers.

The BCMEA said in a media release Friday that Canada’s reputation as a trading partner has been jeopardized and has left Canada’s supply chain unstable and unreliable.

The strike has affected nearly 7,400 workers and has halted shipments in and out of ports across BC including the Port of Vancouver disrupting more than $9.3 billion of trade.
