City of Nanaimo celebrates National Public Works Week

More than 400 Nanaimo grade four students will tour the public works yard and get the chance to learn first-hand how the city’s infrastructure works.

Students are scheduled to take part in a 45-minute tour this month and the City of Nanaimo says they will learn through interactive stations for students to educate themselves on road maintenance, water distribution, solid waste and recycling.

Mayor Leonard Krog says the tour is designed to be informative and inspire the next generation.

“Public works week is an opportunity for us to showcase the vital role that our department plays in maintaining infrastructure,” he says. “By engaging our students at the public in interactive learning experiences, we hope to inspire the next generation of stewards for our community.”

Tours are expected to run on May 24, from 3 to 5 p.m.
