56-unit affordable rental apartment development coming to Qualicum Beach

Four storeys featuring affordable rental apartments is coming to Qualicum Beach, with residents expected to move in in 2025.

The province made the announcement today, and the residences will be built at 136 Village Way W. It will contain a mix of studio and one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments along with seven three-bedroom townhouses for families, seniors and individuals with low to moderate incomes.

The government adds it is within walking distance of schools, medical facilities and public transit. Over $6 million was contributed through the Building BC: Community Housing Fund and will give a $313,000 annual operating subsidy.

Qualicum Beach provided the land, and it’s leased to the Qualicum Parksville Kiwanis Housing Society for a small cost. The federal government provided $92,000 for the project.

Housing minister Ravi Kahlon says the project is the first major housing project in Qualicum Beach to be funded through Building BC and the importance of partnerships are echoed by Parksville-Qualicum MLA, Adam Walker.
