March to remember missing and murdered indigenous women and girls

Tomorrow is Red Dress Day, marked across Canada to remember murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls.

There is an event Sunday in Sechelt starting at 10 am, it’s the first time the shíshálh nation has hosted the march. It starts at 10 am at Cowrie St. & Ocean Ave

Indigenous women in Canada account for 11% of all missing women, even though Indigenous people are less than 5% of the country’s total population. Stats also show Indigenous women are more likely to be exposed to physical and sexual violence.

The red dress is a symbol of the missing and the lost, started in 2010 by a Metis artist.
