Midtown Water Supply construction moves to Northfield Road Tuesday

Construction on the Midtown Water Supply project moves to a new area Tuesday.

The Midtown Water Supply project is focused on increasing the infrastructure for water supply to the northern two-thirds of the city, in an attempt of preventing any sort of disruption to the water supply.

Mayor Leonard Krog says that the project will benefit the city for a long time.

“We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and understanding during the ongoing construction for these two important projects that will serve our community for many, many decades to come,” says Krog.

Commuters should expect delays through midtown. For this week, there will be alternating lane closures on Northfield Road, between Bowen Road and Nanaimo Parkway, while a new pipe is laid underground. Construction will be 24 hours per day as they try to install it in a short amount of time.

“Pedestrians are advised to watch for sidewalk closures and follow detour signage and the direction of flagpersons on duty,” reads the city statement on the construction. “Cyclists are encouraged to dismount and use sidewalks.”
