Nanaimo Councillor Bill Bestwick has pulled out of the mayoral race, just a week after throwing his hat in the ring.
Bestwick says a “terrific and unexpected opportunity” has come up, derailing his plans to run for the City’s top job.
He’s not saying what that opportunity is, but says he still plans to run for a council seat in the fall election. Bestwick has been a Councillor since 2005.
The only candidate still in the race for mayor is longtime resident and activist Brunie Brunie. Current Mayor John Ruttan says he’s still deciding whether to seek re-election.
