RCMP investigating arson in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a case of arson after four cars were torched in the 100 block of Cilaire Dr.
Constable Gary O’Brien says their members and Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene around 3:00am on Thursday, August 7.
Fire crews battled heavy fire and smoke for over an hour. 12 people were evacuated from two nearby homes but were eventually allowed to return home.
O’Brien says it’s lucky the house on the property didn’t catch fire. The quick response from the fire crews and the stucco siding prevented the fire from spreading from the vehicles to the house. The residents have found another place to stay while the fire is being investigated.
The fire damage is estimated to be in the range of $100,000.
