BCNU planning more pressure on changes at NRGH

The Island Health Board is meeting Thursday in Nanaimo, and the BC Nurses Union says they’ll be on hand, yet again, to try to make their case about changes at Nanaimo Regional General.
NRGH was the first Island hospital where care aides started doing some of the jobs done by nurses in the past, and the BCNU’s Debra McPherson says they’ve had plenty of time to see how it’s worked out.
McPherson says the new care model was revamped for Victoria, but it’s stayed the same in Nanaimo.
The BCNU is also planning a bit of fun, with an event at Maffeo Sutton Park before the Board meeting for nurses, their families and supporters.
Inside the meeting, which starts at 1pm at the Oliver Woods Community Centre, the Board will get an update from Island Health’s president and CEO and hear from groups from the Cowichan Valley working on homelessness and community health initiatives.
