Weston meets with Raitt, local leaders on coal and tankers

West Vancouver Sunshine Coast MP John Weston says Transportation Minister Lisa Raitt is leaving the area with a better understanding of concerns over coal shipping and tanker traffic.
Local governments and the Sechelt First Nation are opposed to plans to barge coal from the Lower Mainland to Texada Island.  They’s also raised concerns about both LNG and oil tanker traffic.
Weston invited representatives to sit down with Raitt while she was in BC this week.
Weston says he expects to hear back from Raitt on those issues, as well as derelict vessels, soon.
But is seems not everyone who wanted to be at the meeting was. Islands Trust Chair Sheila Malcolmson Tweeted that she was refused an invitation, even though the Trust includes islands in Weston’s riding.
