Bastion Street Bridge to close for six weeks

The Bastion Street Bridge in downtown Nanaimo will close tomorrow (May 21 for a renewal and seismic retrofit project.

The work is expected to take six weeks and includes a new concrete deck on the structure.

The bridge closure will affect Regional District of Nanaimo Transit operations.

Pedestrian access across the bridge will be maintained during the closure.

The Bastion Bridge was originally constructed in 1936 and there was a complete retrofit of the bridge in 1978.
