Not using a space heater properly can have severe consequences.
The evenings are getting colder and if you’re planning on using a space heater to warm up, there are some important things to remember.
“You should choose one that’s CSA approved,” said Trevor Pike, Chief of the Sechelt Fire Department.
“It’s also important to buy a bigger space heater that’s designed to heat up a bigger space if that’s what you’re intending to do. You also don’t want to be using a cheap model. And another important reminder is to never plug these space heaters into power bars.”
Pike added there were several fires last year that was caused by space heaters and these incidents are preventable.

Another trend that was noticed by the department is that people are drying their cloth on the space heaters, and that could start a fire as well.
