Above average voter turnout for Gibsons and Sechelt

A good voter turnout on the Sunshine Coast compared to other parts of the province.

In 2014 the average turnout for BC communities was 34.5 per cent and both Gibsons and Sechelt residents exceeded that amount by more than 10 per cent this year.

“My early calculation shows that between 48 to 49 per cent of eligible voters decided to vote this year,” said Wendy Lee, Chief Election Officer for Gibsons.

“I thought the turn out would be less than 2014. But I also thought this is a very connected community and we’ve always had a good voter turn out. So I was not surprised and we were very busy during Saturday.

In 2014 nearly 62 per cent of eligible Gibsons electors voted.
