Uplands Elementary targeted by vandals

Several windows have been replaced at Uplands Elementary in Nanaimo, after vandals wreaked havoc over the weekend.

Donna Reimer is Communications Director for the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District.

Reimer says some furniture was overturned, and the broken windows were costly to repair but otherwise damage was minimal.

She says SD68 has drastically reduced the amount of vandalism at local schools in recent years thanks to the work of their anti-vandalism committee. She says it’s not as common, but when it does happen, they’re forced to spend money that should otherwise be spent on students. Police are still looking into the latest incident.
