Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue crews on the Sunshine Coast didn’t get a lot of R&R over the long weekend.
Station 14 from Gibsons was called out three times between Thursday and Sunday.
Thursday night around 10 the ferry crew on the Langdale run spotted a sailboat aground off Gambier Island. It turned out the boat had drifted from its anchorage near Armours Beach in Gibsons.
On Friday night RCM-SAR Gibsons had to help a man on a sailboat that had lost its rudder near Popham Island. The boat was towed into West Van.
And on Saturday they were called out to help a kite boarder who’d lost his kite in blustery conditions in Davis Bay.
Sunday it was Station 12 in Halfmoon Bay’s turn. They had to head out to help 2 people whose small boat had overturned in Sargeant Bay. Both were brought to shore safely.
