Due to the lack of a presence by the DFO on the Sunshine Coast there appears to be some people taking advantage of the situation.
Some residents in the Pender Harbour area are concerned with poaching.
SCRD Area A Director Frank Mauro says it’s not a free for all but there is enough activity to cause concern.
Mauro says the closest DFO office is in Powell River and West Vancouver and he believes having a DFO presence in the community would be a deterrent to the illegal activity.
