George on the agenda means another 200+ turnout for Gibsons Council

Another big crowd as Gibsons Council went over some now-familiar ground; the George Hotel project.

Council confirmed approval of the basic size and design for the waterfront hotel conference centre in a 3-2 vote, Tuesday night. They also heard a report questioning some of the possible economic benefits.

Former economic development committee member Dorothy Riddle, a professional consultant, did the study on her own.  She says if it goes ahead as planned the George would be a self-contained hub, and could actually hurt neighbouring businesses.

The Town is also ordering studies from its own consultants.  Mayor Wayne Rowe says he expects Riddle’s work to be “part of the discussion” when those reports come in.
