Police in Orlando say a man armed with an assault rifle opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida early Sunday, killing 50 people and wounding at least 53.
The shooting began around 2am at the entrance to a Nightclub.
One officer exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who then went inside.
The gunman was holding patrons hostage at one point, before police decided to attempt a rescue and were able to help about 30 people escape.
There was another exchange of gunfire between the gunman and police and the suspect was killed.
