ATV operator dies in forest road incident

An 17 year-old man from Surrey has died after the ATV he was driving collided with a concrete barrier near a bridge on a forest service road in Roberts Creek Saturday.

The man was thrown from the ATV 30 feet down a ravine.

He had been out riding with half a dozen friends when the crash happened around 2 in the afternoon.

An air ambulance first landed at Cliff Gilker Park in Roberts Creek, but later moved to a second landing site closer to the accident scene, about 7 kilometres up the Sechelt Dakota Forest Service Road.

The victim was flown to Vancouver General Hospital, but did not survive.
