Garry Nohr has been acclaimed as Chair of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. It’s a role he’s held since 2010, and he’s been an area director for more than a decade. Nohr says there are issues he’s been working on the whole time that still aren’t resolved.
Nohr says they’re making progress on the water issue. They’re in the process of completing a drought prevention plan for the SCRD, which should be done by September of next year. They’re looking for new water sources and introducing water metering next year.
Meanwhile, Bill Veenhoff has been elected as Chair of the Regional District of Nanaimo, ousting longtime Chair Joe Stanhope. Veenhof says Stanhope did an excellent job, but he felt it was time for change.
Veenhof says the RDN is in the midst of a strategic planning process, and they have to put together a budget, which will take some time.
The RDN also has a new interim CAO. Dennis Trudeau is taking over for Paul Thorkelsson, who resigned.
