2 Nanaimo residents facing drug charges

Two people are facing drug charges after they were nabbed by Nanaimo RCMP.

On Friday, police pulled over a suspicious vehicle that was spotted leaving the scene after fireworks were set off in a city park near Haliburton St and Farquhar St.

Nanaimo RCMP Corporal Jon Stuart says an officer recognized the two occupants in the vehicle as Priority Offenders.

After the officer spotted marijuana in the car, Stuart says the pair were arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a significant amount of drugs and cash.

The 21-year-old man and 44-year-old woman from Nanaimo were remanded into custody until their court appearance on Tuesday in Nanaimo Provincial Court. RCMP are recommending charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
