Queen of Chilliwack crew aids in emergency

A BC Ferries crew was called on to help with a rescue north of Sechelt Thursday morning.

The Queen of Chilliwack was making its crossing between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay when the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre got an emergency call from a boat anchored in Goliath Bay.

Captain Colin Henthorne of the JRCC says it was a serious situation; a 70 year old man on the boat was having a heart attack.

They called in a Coast Guard boat from Powell River and a helicopter from CFB Comox, but the crew of the Chilliwack was close at hand with the right tools to help.

The man was airlifted to hospital by the helicopter from Comox. There’s no word on his condition.
